A Letter from the PSK to the European Parliament,
Parliaments of the EU Member Countries, and the NGOs in Europe
30.10.2007
Ladies and Gentlemen
Turkish National Assembly vested the Government
with the authority to intervene Southern Kurdistan. After
that a military dispatch which targets Southern Kurdistan,
the only peaceful and secure region in Iraq, was accelerated.
Spokesmen of Turkish State justify their military preparations
with Kurdistan Worker’s Party’s recent attacks. They claim
the guerrilas who intrude Turkish borders from Southern Kurdistan,
attack Turkish positions and that’s why they have the right
to attack Kurdistan Worker’s Party bases.
Ladies and Gentlemen
The pretexts for a military operation doesn’t reflect the
truth. Krdistan Workers Party’s military actions and its existence
in mountanious terrains are mere excuses for Turkish government.
The hidden agenda of a prospective military operation is to
prevent regional Kurdish government to gain power in economical,
cultural and social fields, make it difficult to solve Kirkuk
problem in accordance with 140th article of Iraqi constitution.
What Turkish generals utter and the preparations made by Turkish
government do prove our opinion in no uncertain terms.
Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces, Yaşar Büyükanıt,
long before escalation of guerrilla attacks, made a statement
at which he considered a military operation against Southern
Kurdistan unavoidable and essential. Afterwards he repeated
his opinion several times.
Commander of the Land Forces, İlker Başbuğ,
described Southern Kurdistan Government as a threat for ‘National
Security of Turkey’. Yaşar Büyükanıt uttered the
same views as well. Turkish officers rejected the negotiations
with the Kurdish representatives in the Iraqi delegation.
Turkish government launched preliminary studies for shutting
Habur Gate, the sole pass point between Southern Kurdistan
and Turkey, in accordance with the decision made in the last
meeting of National Security Council. This means an economical
embargo which intends to prevent the transfer of goods and
drag the Southern Kurds to straits.
Ladies and Gentlemen
Even the embargo which targets Southern Kurdistan reveals
the hidden agenda of Turkish State. In the event the embargo
is carried out, it will effect not only Southern Kurds but
the Arab families as well which imigrated from different parts
of the country due to conflicts.
Economical embargo will show its destructive effect on the
Turkish side of the border too, and paralyze the economy of
the region. Thousands of Kurds who live by transportation
and border commerce will be unemployed. Economical embargo
will get the living conditions of the population of the region
harder and face them with poverty and contagious diseases.
Moreover it will trigger mass migration from the region.
Southern Kurdistan is an island of democracy where stabilization,
peace and security are ideals are achieved. Southern Kurdistan
is a guarantee for a federal Iraq with its government and
parliament. It contributes to the peace process in the region.
In this respect the foreign interventions which attack the
formation, peace and security in the region will escalate
the turmoil and cause many others.
Ladies and Gentlemen
In order to prevent new tensions and conflicts
we ask you to act against the intervention of Turkish government
and other countries of region to Southern Kurdistan which
will effect whole world, first of all Europe and add to the
problems in the region.
Please
Make pressure on your governments in order
to prevent the economical embargo and military operation of
Turkish government against Southern Kurdistan.
Demand your government to establish good relations
with Southern Kurdistan government.
Ask your goverment to be effective on Turkish
government for a peaceful solution of Kurdish problem in Northern
Kurdistan.
Kurdish people has only one demand: To live
free and peacefully in its land. Kurdish people deserves international
solidarity. We are sure you will support us.
Yours truly
Foreign Committee Of
Socialist
Party of Kurdistan
